Germany wants tougher sanctions against Russia

Германия не хочет ужесточения санкций против РФ

In Berlin believe that it would be counterproductive now “to add tension through new sanctions

The Ambassador of Germany in Ukraine, explained the position of the state in the issue of tightening sanctions against Russia because of the events in the Kerch Strait.

Tougher sanctions against Russia for seizing Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait can strengthen the escalation of the conflict. This was stated by the Ambassador of Germany in Ukraine, Ernst Reichel, at a round table in Kyiv on Wednesday, December 5, Ukrainian news reported.

“We believe that our main task is to prevent further escalation of this conflict, which escalated, and that it is not out of control,” said Reichel at the question of whether to take the European Council on 13 December the decision on introduction of additional sanctions against Russia.

The Ambassador stressed that many countries-EU members, including Germany, believe that it would be counterproductive now “to add tension through new sanctions, and so when the tensions reached a significant level”.

However, Reichel did not predict the outcome of these discussions on toughening sanctions against Russia.

Earlier it was reported that France does not support the proposal to expand anti-Russian sanctions in connection with the incident in the Kerch Strait.
