If the contract for gas transit from Russia will not be renewed in 2020, several cities in Ukraine may be left without heating. This was stated by Prime Minister Alexey Goncharuk at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday, October 23.

According to him, the government is now considering a scenario if the contract with Russia will not proceed.

“If it will stop the transit of gas to Europe, our reserves are sufficient to provide heating. But because of the peculiarities of the CTA have several small towns can be a temporary problem with the heating,” – said Goncharuk.

He assured that the authorities know about this and “think ahead” so that “no emergency stories we will not.”

The Prime Minister said the role of coal generation, in particular Centrenergo, in preparation for the heating season and forced migration for three months of the launch of the first block of Khmelnitsky NPP.

“It’s very important to maximize the capacity of Tsentrenergo as a large coal generator. We are actively working on it. It is important that the maximum of our power generating companies and businesses this winter was in maximum alert – in a good way,” – said Goncharuk.

Earlier Alexey Goncharuk said that the heating season in Ukraine will start without any problems except the two cities SMIL and a New Section. There is, in his words, the heating season may start a few days later.
