Google won a patent dispute with Oracle

Google выиграл патентный спор у Oracle

The dispute seemed to be the rights to Java.

Google won the lawsuit with Oracle in the US on patent rights to use the software Java.

A jury in San Francisco upheld the right of Google to use the Java software platform in the Android operating system. According to the court, Google used Java based on the provisions of fair use, which is provided by copyright law. Such use of the operating system allows Google to make payments in favor of the developer.

Oracle accused Google in a shortfall of income from software Java. As Oracle insisted that the free distribution of Google’s Android operating system violated Oracle’s copyright on the part of the Java software, which ultimately led to a decline in revenues of Oracle.

In Google pointed to the fact that the elements of Java that it uses in Android, do not fall under the laws on copyright protection.

Oracle has stated that they intend to appeal the decision.

In 2012 a similar case on the claim of Oracle against Google was dismissed: the jury are unable to come to a definite decision.

Java was developed by Sun Microsystems and entered the market in 1995. In 2009 Sun Microsystems was acquired by Oracle.
