New railway double-track Beskid tunnel in the Carpathian mountains, will be finally put into operation by the end of may. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groysman, reports on Tuesday, may 15, portal.

The tunnel is operating at full capacity on 25 may 2018. Will complete the passage of trains.

“It is important that coped with the task. Until the end of may, the tunnel will be completed,” – said the Prime Minister.

He noticed that the tunnel is an important logistics routes for the export of Ukrainian products to the EU.

“We need to support export, we had no problems with the supply of products,” – said Groisman.

Tunnel length of 1700 meters.

A new tunnel was built to replace the old, existing since 1886. At the moment it has already exhausted its service life. Trains in old tunnels pass at a minimum speed.

After opening a new tunnel, the old will be preserved and will be used as an evacuation.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the new tunnel will allow to increase the number of pairs of trains on the stretch to 96 per day instead of the current 25 pairs. It is built with all the requirements of the area and meets the highest European specifications.

Now Beskydy tunnel is the only single-track section of the entire length of the V Cretan International transport corridor, which runs along Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and Russia (Trieste – Ljubljana – Budapest – Bratislava – Uzhgorod – Lviv). This prevents the integration of transport network of Ukraine with the European and the full use of transit potential.

We will remind, the Minister of infrastructure Vladimir Omelian said that the tunnel through the Carpathians will open in 2017.

Earlier it was reported that a new tunnel stretched at 1765 meters and will connect Ukraine and the EU.
