The Ambassador of Russia said that Ukraine’s new President can now use his powers to stop attacks in Donbas.
Ukraine’s new President Vladimir Zelensky can stop the attacks and armed provocations in the Donbass, just ordered the cease-fire was declared by the Plenipotentiary of Russia at negotiations of the contact group on Ukraine, Boris Gryzlov, reports TASS.
“Now, before the meeting of the Contact group, Ukraine’s new President can use his powers to stop the attacks and armed provocations by the APU. The Ukrainian President is enough to give the order to ceasefire to its own security forces,” he said.
Gryzlov noted that “on the eve of the change of power in Kiev, the events developed in another direction.”
The Ambassador of Russia also reported that while the members of the contact group on the settlement in Eastern Ukraine agreed to provide the Kiev side “reasonable extra time” to prepare for a new meeting.
“The next meeting of the contact group was held in Minsk on 22 may, he recalled. – This date was determined in advance, but the Kiev side has indicated that it is not ready to participate. Accordingly, the meeting of the contact group tolerated”, he added.
Earlier it was reported that Irina Gerashchenko resigned as negotiator in Minsk. First Vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada wrote a letter of resignation from office of the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine on peaceful settlement and representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian sub-group in Minsk.
