HRC Russia offers UN to jointly investigate cases of political prisoners in Ukraine

СПЧ РФ предлагает ООН совместно расследовать дела политзаключенных в Украине

In prisons and detention centers of Ukraine are 52 political prisoners, two of them — the citizens of the Russian Federation. The corresponding list of prisoners the members of the Council under RF President on development of civil society and human rights Council (HRC) was applied to the letter, which is addressed to the head of the UN Subcommittee on prevention of torture Malcolm Evans, write “Izvestia” with reference to the document.

In a letter to Evans, who until may 26, is with the delegation in Ukraine, members of the HRC propose to jointly investigate these cases.

It is noted that it is not a definitive list of political prisoners, and priority cases of people who urgently need help.

In particular, it is reported that only in the Odessa region is approximately 58 prisoners, about the same in Kharkiv, hundreds more under investigation or in prison.

“I hope that Mr. Evans will take the list under their personal supervision and in the framework of the visit of the delegation to Ukraine to visit these people. We consider it necessary that international human rights activists were convinced that these people are in normal conditions. Otherwise, you need to ensure respect for human rights”, — said the initiator of the letter, the Executive Secretary of the presidential Council Yana Lantratova.

Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said that the foreign Ministers of Germany and France support the need for the release of Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia.
