The Supreme court of Crimea has dismissed an appeal against the arrest of the captain captured by Russia in the Kerch Strait, the Ukrainian boats Berdyansk Novel Mokryak. On Friday, December 21, according to journalist Anton NumLock in Facebook.

Earlier, the judge of the Supreme court of the annexed Crimea Alla Ovchinnikova said that, according to the Geneva Convention, the Ukrainian sailors who were detained by Russian security forces in the Kerch Strait could not be considered prisoners of war, as Ukraine and Russia are not at war.

We will remind, on November 25, the Russian special forces had seized two Ukrainian boats of Berdyansk and Dnipropetrovsk and tug Jana’s tray on the way to the Kerch Strait. 24 Ukrainian sailors were arrested on charges of “illegal crossing of border of the Russian Federation”. The foreign Ministry of Ukraine said that Russia started the war against Ukraine in international waters. Russia calls Ukraine’s actions in the Kerch Strait “provocative”. The international community calls on Russia to return the captured ships and the release of Ukrainian sailors.
