In Germany, the group filed a lawsuit against Volkswagen about diesel scandal

Consumer advocates and the automobile club ADAC intend to seek determination of liability of concern to motorists due to data manipulation on the contents of the exhaust.

The Federal Association of the centers of consumer protection and the German automobile club ADAC filed the first case-a class action lawsuit against the car manufacturer VW. The higher regional court in Braunschweig confirmed receipt of the document.

The goal of the lawsuit is to determine the responsibility of the group in front of millions of car owners because of data manipulation on the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases of diesel engines. The automaker “has abused the trust of consumers and is obliged to compensate the damage”, said the Chairman of the Association of centres for the protection of the rights of consumers Klaus müller.

The Statute of limitations on claims for damages from the actions of the VW expires in December 2018. The Grand coalition has pledged to achieve adoption of law about the precedent the lawsuit to stop the expiration. On 1 November, the law entered into force.

In the lawsuit it is a certain type of diesel engine – ЕА189. Current and former owners of cars of brands Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and Seat vehicles with this engine are free to join the lawsuit. If the process will end only with the establishment of damage, not a global agreement about his compensation, motorists will have to submit claims to the concern about compensation confirmed by the judicial decision of damages on an individual basis.

Earlier it was reported that Audi will pay a fine in the amount of 800 million euros for the manipulation of the level of exhaust gases.
