In the Greek city of Thessaloniki yesterday may 17 took place the solemn ceremony, devoted to beginning of construction of the Greek section of the TRANS Adriatic pipeline (Trans Adriatic Pipeline), the Agency “TASS”.

The pipeline is the last link of the southern gas corridor, intended for transportation on the European market for Azerbaijani gas, which will be produced in the second stage of development of gas condensate field Shah-Deniz on the Caspian shelf, with proven reserves of 1.2 trillion cubic meters. It will stretch from the Turkish-Greek border through Greece, Albania, the Adriatic sea to southern Italy.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras, the energy Ministers of Azerbaijan and Bulgaria, as well as representatives of the European Commission and the United States.

The agreement to build the pipeline was signed in Athens on 13 February 2013 Greece, Albania and Italy. The project will be invested 5.6 billion euros in five years, 2.3 billion euros will be invested in the construction of the plot in Greece. The total length of the pipeline will be about 870 km, the pipeline capacity will be 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year with the possibility of its increase to 20 billion cubic meters.
