The national Bank of Ukraine (NBU) from may 12, introduces into circulation a silver coin in memory of the victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people. About it reports a press-service of the NBU.

The obverse of the coin is placed: the small State Emblem of Ukraine, the inscription Ukraine, year of minting coins in 2016, nominal – 10/hryvnia, and composition: mirror on the background – a map of the Crimean Peninsula, which depicts the emblem of the Crimean Tatar Tamga, at the bottom – the wheels of the locomotive that is serving as a symbol of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people.

The coin’s reverse depicts a stylized composition: deported Crimean Tatar family behind barbed wire in the car and the inscription: 18/05/1944 (vertically left), Genocide/Crimean Tatar/people (top) and QIRIMTATAR/HALQININ/GENOTSIDI (bottom).

We will note, on may 18 1944, the Soviet regime began deportation of Crimean Tatars from their historical homeland – Crimea. Their forced eviction, restriction of livelihood has led to the deaths of about half of the evicted.
