Secretary of the national security Council and defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov and the Chairman of the Lithuanian Seimas (Parliament) Loretta Hrauzhinene during the meeting discussed the current situation in Ukraine in the context of the belligerent actions of Russia. This was reported in the press service of the NSDC.

According to Turchynov, Ukraine “Lithuania is not just a partner and friend, whose support we felt during the Revolution of dignity and military confrontation with the Russian Federation”.

During the discussion of the situation in the East of Ukraine, NSDC Secretary stressed that the European countries in the context of seeking a peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donbas should be clearly understood that “Russia is not a third party, and the aggressor”.

“This is one of their weapons is the fire in the East, their soldiers are killing Ukrainians, that they went to war,” – said Turchinov.

NSDC Secretary said that Russia in the East of Ukraine systematically tests new weapons. “We see how Russia daily fires on Ukrainian positions, uses new weapons and to test new techniques of warfare, completely ignoring the basic position of the Minsk agreements”, – he noted, adding that the shelling “every day we lose in killed and wounded of our defenders”.

“So we have to be prepared for adequate response to Russia’s actions. We hope that our strategic partners will only observe the aggravation of the situation”, – the NSDC Secretary said.

Turchynov noted the importance of receiving military-technical assistance from the West.

“We are actively developing military-industrial complex, but not completely unable to meet the needs of the whole range of weapons needed to defend Ukraine”, – said Turchinov, adding that the decision of the allies on military-technical assistance is needed “not after the intensification of the war, and as a preventive measure”.

The interlocutors stated that “as long as Russia continues aggression and occupation of part of Ukrainian territory, in particular, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, it is necessary not to cancel, and to tighten sanctions.”

In turn, Loretta Hrauzhinene stressed that Lithuania has always been and remains a sincere friend of Ukraine. “I am sure that Ukraine with dignity passes all the tests on the way to Europe”, – concluded the speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania.

After the talks Hrauzhinene received the award of the Apparatus of the NSDC of Ukraine for his personal position on the consecutive support of our country.
