The archaeologists found 16 burials in the mound on the Arabat spit

The archaeologists found 16 burials of the different cultures in the Kurgan of the bronze age on the Arabat spit in Kherson region.

In Kherson oblast on the Arabat spit, the resort of the archaeologists opened the graves of 16 different cultures in the Kurgan of the bronze age, located on the territory of the village Council Schastlivtsevo Genichesk district. On Thursday, October 11, reported the website Schastlivtsevo of the village Council.

“From 17 September to 9 October in the village of Schastlivtsevo continued fall of the Arabat expedition – 2018. The scientific staff of the Institute of archaeology of NAS of Ukraine under the leadership of the head of the Department of Field Committee of the Institute of archaeology of national Academy of Sciences Yuri Boltryk conducted excavations of the mound of the bronze age. The first discovery in the very first day of excavation of the remains of the warrior Sarmatian (member of the tribe roxolani) stunned everyone”, – stated in the message.

In General, archaeologists have discovered in Kurgan burials 16. As Chairman of the expedition Baltic, seven of them belong to the Yamna culture, one – to catacomb, one to log culture, two burials belong to the late medieval nomads, three abandoned settlement of Indian cultural circle, and even one grave left roksolany (representatives of the nomadic Sarmatians).



According to preliminary information of archaeologists, the period of use of this mound covers the time from the third Millennium BC to the 15 – 17 century ad, that is, as the burial place of the mound of the ancient inhabitants of Arabat of the steppe was used in the period from the early bronze age to the late middle ages, the report says.

According to published information, the archaeologists found in the barrow iron sword and knife (preserved in fragments) silicon sword, silver pronizka, four small earthenware jug, which can be a good look ornaments and fragments of amphorae and other plastic utensils.

It is noted that the artifacts found by the archaeologists were taken to Kiev for further study by specialists.

Earlier in the Kharkiv region during a military memorial of the expedition, the archaeologists found the remains of 48 victims of Barvinkove boiler in 1942.

It was also reported that in Shostka Sumy region found the family tomb of the famous major-General, Director of Shostka gunpowder factory Aaronovich Carl Molander (1857-1862.).
