In the skies over the United States took a giant fireball

В небе над США сняли огромный огненный шар

Residents of Alabama were able to observe the fall of an asteroid

The fireball was at least 40 times brighter than the full moon, said NASA. Some small pieces could reach the ground.

Several dozen residents of the U.S. state of Alabama witnessed a huge bright ball in the sky that exploded on the night of 17th August. Video from explosion in the sky was published by NASA in Facebook.

“The whole sky lit up bright blue color, I was on the road near an empty field with no street lights. It was very bright!” – said one of the witnesses of this phenomenon in the sky.

“The results show that the fireball was at least 40 times brighter than the full moon. Ball was the result of the explosion of a small asteroid with a diameter of 2 meters (6 feet)”, – stated in the message.

It is possible that some small pieces fell to the ground, but it is unclear whether all small pieces could reach the surface, said NASA. If the particles of the meteor reached the surface, the hunters meteorites can find them and gain for them a lot of money.

According to experts NASA, fireballs daily penetrate the Earth’s atmosphere, but people do not often witness such phenomena as the busy routine and rarely look at the sky.

Security camera/doorbell camera video of last night’s fireball over Alabama at 12:20a CT. From Jason Stricklin, Shannon Stephens, Barry Pender, and Chris Bruner. The meteor was 18 miles over East Alabama moving at 53,700 mph. It fragmented over Grove Oak in DeKalb County.
