In Ukraine, the first in the exclusion zone at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant a solar power plant. In a festive opening ceremony held on Friday, October 5, was attended by representatives of the Hamburg energy companies Enerparc AG, which is one of the investors in the project.

More than half of electricity in Ukraine is generated at nuclear power plants. Despite the fact that within a radius of 2600 km around Chernobyl is still recorded elevated levels of radiation, the Ukrainian government plans to re-start industrial development of the area. In particular, Kyiv is considering the prospect of construction in the exclusion zone several solar and wind power plants.

Installation of the first of these solar power capacity of 1 megawatt was completed in December 2017. From July 2018 it generates energy for the Ukrainian national power grid.

We will remind, in the exclusion zone, work is continuing on the preparation for the commissioning of the industrial complex for processing of solid radioactive waste accumulated during the existence of the station.
