Juncker explained the position on anti-corruption court

Юнкер объяснил позицию по антикоррупционному суду

The head of the European Commission believes that Ukraine needs an independent body to fight corruption, whose structure will determine power.

Advisor to the President of the European Commission Richard Shostak reported that the head of the EC Jean-Claude Juncker is in favour of the urgent establishment in Ukraine of a competent independent body to fight corruption, reports UNIAN.

In a letter to the Ukrainian anti-corruption action Center, Shostak said that, according to Juncker, the institutional structure of the anti-corruption body should define the Ukrainian government.

Adviser to the head of the EC recalled that the importance of combating corruption was the focus of discussion during the summit Ukraine-EU which was held on 13 July in Kiev.

“President Juncker has publicly stated that the efforts to eradicate corruption in Ukraine to date has been inadequate. He spoke to each of his companions, that fighting corruption will be a key benchmark by which to evaluate the reform process in Ukraine”, − stated in the letter.

Previously ten Ukrainian public organisations and movements publicly addressed the EU with a request to explain a possible change of course on anti-corruption courts. This was due to the statement of Juncker at the final press conference of the summit Ukraine-EU that the EU does not insist on the establishment of anticorruption court in Ukraine and admits the existence of anti-corruption chamber in the current judicial system.

We will remind, during the plenary session of the summit Ukraine-EU Juncker said that Ukraine needs to speed up the fight against corruption.
