Many EU countries do not want to negotiate with Russia on the gas pipeline project.

The EU has no unified position on the provision of the European Commission mandate on negotiations with Russia on the gas pipeline project Nord stream-2.

This was stated by the head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, speaking after the first day of the EU summit in Brussels, reports Radio Liberty.

“Agreement between the EU on the mandate for the negotiations of the European Commission with Russia. I briefed the leaders of the 28 member States with the position of the European Commission. It was supported by many countries. But many States also believe that there is no need to give the EC the mandate. Anyway, we decided that the European Council should continue on this issue to work”, – said Juncker.

A number of EU countries and Ukraine oppose the gas pipeline project Nord stream-2. They claim that it will create additional leverage with Moscow. It is lobbying Russia and some European, in particular German companies.

As reported Корреспондент.netbefore it became known that Northern stream 2 new problems arose. In particular, Denmark is planning to pass a law banning the construction of the pipeline in its territorial waters, citing the threat to national security.

And Poland plans to deprive Russia of income from the flow of gas through the Nord stream-2 if this pipeline will be built.

Earlier in Russia said about the sabotaging of Europe, Nord stream-2. This opinion was expressed by Russian energy Minister Alexander Novak, commenting on the actions of the European Commission.
