Klimkin discussed with Stoltenberg shared security challenges faced by member States of NATO and Ukraine.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin asked the NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, to intensify the work of the Trust funds of the Alliance designed to strengthen the security of ammunition depots in Ukraine. This request was made in a meeting of politicians in Brussels, the press service of the Ukrainian authorities on Monday, October 15.

“In the discussion of areas of practical cooperation Minister Klimkin requested to intensify the work of the NATO Trust Fund designed to strengthen the security of ammunition depots in Ukraine, which is particularly relevant in light of recent events in the town of Ichnya of Chernihiv region. The parties agreed that the joint permanent control over the effective use of the aid of the Alliance our state”, – stated in the message.

In addition, during the meeting, Klimkin discussed with Stoltenberg shared security challenges faced by member States of NATO and Ukraine, in particular safe situation in the Black and Azov seas.

“The Secretary General confirmed that the arrangements for the strengthened advanced presence in Eastern Europe and the Baltic States, adaptation and creation of new military structures, a substantial increase in defense spending is a clear response of the allies to the growing aggression of Russia”, – underlined in the message.

The two sides also exchanged views on the working mechanisms of the distinctive partnership of Ukraine with NATO, in particular meetings of the Commission Ukraine-NATO at the Ministerial level. “According to the Secretary General, the key to unlocking the work of the Commission lies in the plane of the agreements between Ukraine and Hungary in ensuring the linguistic rights of the Hungarian minority. An important step will be full implementation of the recommendations of the Venice Commission on the implementation of the law of Ukraine about education”, – noted in the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Klimkin, in turn, has added that the aim is to ensure the residents of Transcarpathia equal rights, creation of conditions for full development as citizens of Ukraine, support their languages, traditions and culture.

Earlier it was reported that the problem of counter-sabotage in ammunition storage facilities of Ukraine may be solved by placing them in buried concrete vaults.
