The main contender in the elections of the new head of Interpol is the General-the major of Ministry of internal Affairs of Russia Alexander Prokopchuk.

If elected President of Interpol representative of Russia, Ukraine will consider the suspension of membership in the organization. This was during the 87th session of the General Assembly of Interpol in Dubai on Monday, 19 November, said the Minister of internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, reports the press service of the interior Ministry.

“Possible presidency of Russia in the Interpol – absurd, contrary to the spirit and goals of the organization. Ukraine will consider the suspension of membership in Interpol, if elected for the post of President of Interpol representative of Russia”, – said Avakov.

Note, the main contender in the elections of the new head of Interpol called the General-the major of Ministry of internal Affairs of Russia Alexander Prokopchuk. It from 2006 to 2011 he was Deputy chief of National Central Bureau of Interpol of the MIA of Russia, then headed the organization. In 2016, the major-General became Vice-President of Interpol.

Elections of the head of the Interpol will take place on 21 November.

Recall that on 5 October it became known about the disappearance of the President of Interpol. His wife, who lives in France, told police that in late September Hongwei went to China and since then has not been in touch.

Later the Chinese media reported that the head of Interpol arrested immediately after his plane landed in China and now he is under investigation.

Prior to this, Meng Hongwei resigned as President of Interpol. The acting head of the organization became senior Vice President Kim Chong Yang.
