Kyiv demands to cancel the “null and void” the ban of the Mejlis

Киев требует отменить "юридически ничтожный" запрет Меджлиса

The Ukrainian foreign Ministry reacted to the decision of the Crimean authorities.

The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed strong protest in connection with the illegal adoption of a judicial authority of the state of the occupier of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the decision to ban the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, given the recognition of its extremist activities.

This is stated in the foreign Ministry statement, published on the Agency’s website.

“The ban of the Mejlis – the key national government body of the Crimean Tatars, the activity of which is the principle of non – violence was another manifestation of gross violations by the occupation authorities of fundamental rights and freedoms of man, including the International Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination”, – stated in it.

The foreign Ministry notes that this is “unprecedented repressive decision is another glaring evidence of systematic persecution of the Crimean Tatar people in connection with his principled position on Russia’s occupation of Crimea”.

“Ukraine demands from the state of the occupant for the immediate abolition of this worthless in its essence and the legal nature of the decision and the complete cessation of harassment of the Crimean Tatar community in the Crimea”, – said in a statement.

The Ministry called on Ukraine’s partners, in particular the key guarantors of its security under the Budapest Memorandum, to intensify efforts to create an international mechanism on issues of de-occupation of Crimea.

We will remind, today the Supreme court of Crimea has recognized the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people by the extremist organization and banned its activities on the Peninsula and in Russia.
