The new rules will come into force at the end of this-early next year

The decision was taken because of security reasons.

The national security Council and defense of Ukraine decided to introduce a new procedure of crossing the Ukrainian border for biometric passports from 1 January 2018. This was reported to journalists by the NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov at the meeting on Monday, July 10.

“It is clear that in the first place it will apply to Russian citizens. A citizen of Russia who wants to visit Ukraine in advance will have to register and provide the Ukrainian foreign Ministry the necessary data. In addition, introduces the requirement for mandatory registration of citizens of the Russian Federation located on the territory of Ukraine, the place of their temporary stay and they will need to provide information about movement on the territory of Ukraine”, – said Turchinov.

He stressed that such decisions were taken because of security reasons.

“This system is related to strengthening security. After the attacks, the aggression part of the hybrid war waged by Russia against us. This is necessary in order to saboteurs, terrorists, spies could cross our border with false documents,” said Secretary of the NSDC.

According to Turchynov, on the maintenance of this process, the state border service is proposed to allocate 300 million hryvnias, and the same amount will be allocated to the construction of borders.

Earlier it was reported that the State border service of Ukraine has banned the entry of 70 Russian artists.
