Marchuk: Prospects for the peacekeepers yet

Марчук: Перспектив по миротворцам пока нет

For the situation in the Donbass can go two types of peacekeeping operations.

The representative of Ukraine in the sub-group on the security of the Trilateral contact group, former Prime Minister, former defense Minister and former NSDC Secretary Yevhen Marchuk does not see prospects of the introduction in the near future UN peacekeeping force in the Donbass. He stated this in an interview with channel 5 on Tuesday evening, January 2.

“Frankly, I have little hope that it will be possible in the near future peacekeeping force something positive to solve,” – said Marchuk.

He noted that the situation in the Donbass can go two types of peacekeeping operations: peacekeeping and peace enforcement, and the latter requires the use of weapons by peacekeeping contingents against violators of the peace, or those who attack peacekeepers.

Marchuk pointed out that since he already made a lot of statements at various levels, including from the heads LDNR that they are against the proposed by Ukraine of the initiative the introduction of peacekeepers, he does not see in the near future the prospects for the introduction of peacekeepers. “Although this does not mean that this issue does not need to promote, and the President Poroshenko did the right thing and raised the issue at the UN General Assembly”, – he said.

As reported, Russia’s position on the issue of UN troops to Donbassarena that peacekeepers need to support the OSCE mission.

Ukraine excludes the possibility of Russia’s participation in future UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbas.
