Medvedchuk: the education Act separates Ukraine from the EU

Медведчук: Закон об образовании отдаляет Украину от ЕС

Viktor Medvedchuk

Policy of the Ukrainian authorities and contradictory policy, the leader of “Ukrainian choice”.

“Linguistic article” law of Ukraine “On education” remains a stumbling block in relations with Europe. This opinion was expressed by the leader of the public movement “the Ukrainian choice – the Right of the people” Viktor Medvedchuk.

“However, even the prospect of a revision of the Association Agreement with the EU is forcing the Ukrainian government to take a balanced approach to dealing with such painful issues in the country, as the language of instruction… But officials do not think about long term consequences of their actions, preferring to cheerfully report about the successes and ignoring everything that does not fit into their usual “picture of the world”, – he stressed.

Medvedchuk reminded that the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland has expressed his opinion – he is concerned about “the emergence of populist, nationalist ideas in some parts of Europe,” and therefore considers it unwise to ignore the “threats to peace and stability,” emerging “because of the politicization of interethnic relations and deviations from mezhdunarodnikhsoglashenii standards for the protection of minorities”.

“The words of the Secretary General – is undeniable evidence that “a friendly European family” where so eager Ukrainian Eurointegration, the government, cynically trampling on democratic principles, will never find support”, – said Medvedchuk.

We will remind, on September 25, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed the law on education in Ukraine, adopted by Parliament on 5 September 2017.
