The key topic of the telephone conversation between the two leaders was the situation around the conflict in the Kerch Strait.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, December 10, had a telephone conversation during which discussed a range of issues, including the situation in the Kerch Strait and the issue of gas transit through Ukraine. About it reports Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the statement of the spokesman of Germany Steffen Seibert.
“In the centre of the negotiations was the situation in the Kerch Strait. The Chancellor stressed that it is necessary to take measures for the smooth passage of ships,” − said Seibert.
Merkel stressed that it is necessary to release the detained sailors.
In addition, the parties discussed the issue of transit of Russian times through Ukraine in the future and the situation in Syria and the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range, said Seibert.
The Kremlin said that the telephone conversation was initiated by the German side.
Earlier, Merkel and Putin discussed the worsening situation in the Azov sea on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
We will remind, on November 25, the Russian special forces had seized two Ukrainian boats and tug on approach to Kerch Strait.
Russia accused the Ukrainian side in “dangerous maneuvers” during the approach to the “closed water area of the territorial sea of the Russian Federation”, calling the actions of Ukraine in the Kerch Strait “provocative”.
In connection with the incident Kiev and Moscow exchanged notes of protest.
Russia’s actions condemned by NATO and several European countries.
