German Chancellor Angela Merkel refused to accept the offer of Vice President of the United States Mike Pence about the direction of the ships of naval forces of Germany in the Kerch Strait. On Thursday, March 7, reports Bloomberg, citing its own sources.

According to the Agency, during the meeting at the Munich security conference on February 16 Pence urged Merkel to send German ships in the Kerch Strait in order to “show Putin that the Western powers will not give up access to these waters,” – said the source Agency on condition of anonymity.

According to them, the Chancellor refused, saying the doubts previously voiced by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

Sources said that Merkel, in coordination with France intended to send a group of ships through the Strait as a single maneuver, however, Poroshenko said that “this is not enough to solve the problem – he wants to ensure permanent access to the Straits.”

France, according to sources, has also refused this offer.

Earlier the Russian foreign Ministry said that Ukraine intends to carry out a breakthrough through the Strait without the permission of Russia, but with the presence of NATO representatives.
