Military program called Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) aims at developing a helmet that will give US soldiers an edge in combat.

 

Microsoft won the contract to $ 480 million for the development of augmented reality system for use in combat and military training, U.S. army, reports Ars Technica.

Microsoft will supply military helmet augmented reality HoloLens for use in battle and training programs.

Military program called Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) aims at developing a helmet that will give US soldiers an edge in combat. During the development of IVAS military first order 2550 prototypes, and subsequent production is likely to exceed 100,000 units.

The aim of the project is to develop a headset that gives soldiers both in training and in combat – the increase in “lethality, mobility and situational awareness”. The authorities want to develop a system with form factor for glasses or a visor with a built-in three-dimensional display, digital cameras, laser and ballistic protection hearing.

Microsoft is positioning HoloLens as a universal gadget for augmented reality, which allows you to overlay information or virtual objects in real space. For example, such tools can benefit designers, surgeons, designers, engineers, architects and many other professionals.

“The technology of augmented reality will give troops more information for decision-making”, — said the representative of Microsoft, adding that the company has “long-standing, trusting relationship” with the Ministry of defence.

In particular, previously, Microsoft has worked with the U.S. army and provided HoloLens for training soldiers, but the military was not satisfied with the first version of the helmet because of the size and viewing angle.

Recall that at the technology exhibition in China, Microsoft founder bill gates showed a “toilet of the future”, which can run without water and connect to sewer.
