In his address on the occasion of world press freedom day, the Minister said that today the works of Nicholas Semeny and Roman Sushchenko – examples of violations of journalists ‘ profession and freedom of speech on the part of the Russian Federation.

“This day I call the world community to pay attention to our political prisoners-journalists. Without the support of international organizations, opinions of European leaders quick their release is not achieved,” – said stets.

He added that the other side of freedom is responsibility, so the Department asks journalists to be aware of responsibility to society, to uphold the standards of journalism and impartiality statements.

“Given the outrageous to the modern world cases of impunity and worrying about the safety of journalists, shortly, the MIP initiates changes in legislation regarding insurance. The topic will raise, along with the Council of Europe and NUJU, media representatives and insurers,” – said the Minister.

According to him, therefore, the Ministry plans through the legislative regulation of compulsory insurance to give additional guarantees in professional activities.

Recall that the world press freedom day is celebrated annually on 3 may, starting in 1994. Proclaimed by the General Assembly in a special resolution on 20 December 1993.

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman in his address urged this day to remember all journalists who gave their lives for the truth.
