The head of the Transcarpathian regional state administration Gennady Moskal said that Transcarpathia fully dekommunizirovannogo. He said this on his page in Facebook.

“Transcarpathia finally dekommunizirovannogo: all of Lena, Dzerzhinsky, Kirov, Komsomol, October thrown into the dustbin of history. Instead they got the streets not only of John Lennon or Andy Warhol. The region became the only one in Ukraine, where “dekommunizirovannogo” street renamed to honour all those killed in the Donbass heroes,” – wrote Moskal.

However, he noted that “there are lots of people who are protesting against it.”

According to Moskal, in the village of Velykyi Bereznyi street Ivan Lokote (figure Czechoslovak Communist period) was renamed the street fighter of the ATO Vasyl Nalyvaiko. However, after that Moskal received dozens of letters from local residents, who demanded the return of the old name.

He also gave the example that ordered to rename two streets in the village of Klyachanovo in Mukachevo district in honor of the men of ATO, but the village Council this order is not complied with. Moskal noted that the appeal against the decision of the village Council in court because it is illegal.

“However, these examples show how deeply ingrained Communist propaganda into the consciousness of Transcarpathia, and how far they are from what is happening in the Donbass”, – he added.

We will remind, in April 2015 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law condemning Communist and Nazi regimes. According to the Ukrainian Institute of national memory, the new names in connection with the operation of the law needs to 941 village. The dismantling of monuments and memorial signs, like the renaming of streets and cities should be completed in Ukraine until may 21, 2016.
