Naftogaz called scenarios for gas transit

В Нафтогазе назвали сценарии по транзиту газа

In Naftogaz said about the scenarios on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine in 2020.

From 1 January 2020, Ukraine could remain without the Russian gas transit, which would entail considerable economic losses, but there is another way. On Wednesday, September 11, said the Executive Director of the group Naftogaz Yuriy Vitrenko during the conference, the Naftogaz-Gazprom: Energy Security, Gas Transit and European Integration, UNN.

“As you know, Naftogaz has a contract with Gazprom on the transit of Russian gas to Europe, and this contract expires in a few months. One possible, if not baseline, scenarios – that we will not transit from January 1, 2020. This will mean that the Ukrainian economy will lose 3-4% of GDP. It also means that we may get the issues of security of gas supply to Ukraine – simply speaking, just a lack of gas to Ukraine. It also means that some European partners of Ukraine will become less important because European gas will pass through Ukraine, the European – that is designed for the European market,” – said Vitrenko.

At the same time, in his opinion, Ukraine can be another way on a transit contract.

“But there is another scenario: that transit will continue to sign more than one contract for the transit, which will start from 1 January 2020, for example, with the European companies to buy Russian gas at the Russian-Ukrainian border, which will allow Ukraine not only to thrive economically but also to reinforce some level of integration with the EU market. And will be an important catalyst for reforms in Ukraine”, – he said.

Earlier the agenda of the gas talks was voiced by Vice-President of the EC Maros Sefcovic.
