Naftogaz wants to extend the gas contract with Russia

Нафтогаз не хочет продлевать газовый контракт с РФ

The current contract between Naftogaz and Gazprom on gas transit does not meet the requirements of Ukrainian and European legislation.

The current transit contract with Naftogaz, Russia’s Gazprom will not be extended because it does not meet the requirements of Ukrainian and European legislation. This was stated on Monday, February 11, CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko in Facebook.

“The current transit contract between Naftogaz and Gazprom does not meet the requirements of Ukrainian and European legislation, so it cannot be “extended,” wrote Vitrenko in the social network.

At the same time, he stressed that the transit through Ukraine “could be the standard European conditions, not on conditions of Russia”.

“If Russia will continue to provide to Gazprom the exclusive opportunities for gas transit from Russia to Europe through Ukraine, and Gazprom will agree on a standard European conditions, Naftogaz has a real opportunity via a new arbitration, which had already begun, to approximately $ 10 billion in compensation for the lack of transit after 2019,” – said Vitrenko.

We will remind that on January 21, held gas talks in Brussels. The main topic of discussion was the prospects of gas transit through Ukraine’s territory after 2019. This is the second round of trilateral consultations on gas first took place in July last year in Berlin. Russia, EC and Ukraine agreed then to establish an expert working group to discuss all issues of gas transit after 2019.
