Scientists of the National administration on Aeronautics and research of space administration (NASA) for the first time visualized the melting of a single snowflake and presented a 3D model of the process. As reported on the Agency’s website, this will allow us to understand why the different types of snow and different appears on the radar screens and to use these differences for monitoring the state of the ice cover and snow caps.

The model reflects all the stages of the process of melting snowflakes. First, the melt water is going in all the concave parts of the snowflake, then it accumulates, forming a shell of fluid around the core and finally transformed into a drop.

Previously, NASA has published a photo of the storm on Jupiter, made by the automatic interplanetary spacecraft Juno.
