NATO is not ready to expand the partnership with Ukraine – Ambassador

НАТО не готово расширять партнерство с Украиной – посол

Ukraine conducts negotiations about participation in the program for a special partner, however, to expect quick results is not worth it.

The Alliance is at the moment not ready to invite Ukraine into the program for a special partner Enhance Opportunity Program. This was stated by the head of mission of Ukraine to NATO Vadim pristayko in an interview with UKRINFORM, published on Thursday, July 5.

According to him, the programme now involves five countries and there is no reason to believe that Ukraine will soon join their number.

“Is NATO now to invite Ukraine into this program? No. Three-year review of the effectiveness of the program was completed six months ago. All five participants, and that Australia, Finland, Georgia, Jordan and Sweden are invited to participate in its work in the future. We are involved in negotiations on this issue. I don’t think this work will be completed to the summit,” said Pristayko.

The Ambassador noted that the program for today allows to unite NATO club’s closest partners, who for various reasons are not allies, but we are ready to work closely, often in technical issues during joint operations and exercises.

“That is, purely formally, this program is not a “breakthrough” or even a mechanism of Euro-Atlantic integration. Although Ukraine is willing to participate in all forms of interaction, we must also appreciate the proximity with the Alliance, which gives us the status of a Special partner, which is our state for the Alliance”, – said the Ambassador.

As reported, the President of Ukraine has agreed with NATO Secretary General on the joint statement at the Alliance’s summit next week.

Earlier it became known that Peter Poroshenko invited to the NATO summit, which will be held 1-12 July in Brussels.
