It is noted that the base of the monument – a granite slab 3.5 meters in height, was brought from Zhytomyr region. On the monument depicts a soldier of the 90 separate airmobile battalion named after Hero of Ukraine senior Lieutenant Ivan Zubkov, the foreman Maxim Redsonic. His group was the last to leave the Donetsk airport on 23 January 2015.

The opening ceremony was attended by the head of the Antiterrorist operation, the commander of the airborne troops of the Armed forces of Ukraine Lieutenant General Mikhail Zabrodsky, commanders of military units DSV and a military chaplain, father Vasily Ivanyuk, who held a prayer service and consecrated the monument.

“We again commend the courage and heroism of those left in DaPa for all who went through torture and the horrors of captivity, who survived and emerged from the shattered buildings of the airport. We have demonstrated the Ukraine, the world and even the enemy, if required by the military situation – it will defend any building or in any quarter, without exception, locality or region of our state. Thus, regardless of the language spoken by its residents”, – said the head of the ATU.

We will remind, earlier in Kiev took place the opening of the monument to the Flame of the world.
