In Greece detained a Ukrainian yacht

Ukrainian border guards helped the Greek police in the detention of countrymen. According to Ukrainian legislation, the sailors act as victims.

Greek militiamen in the Mediterranean sea detained a Ukrainian boat with about 60 illegal immigrants on Board. The detention was supported by Ukrainian state border guard service, said on Thursday, October 11, the press service of the Ministry.

“As established by operational employees of SBS, for the last two years for the implementation of the transport of illegal migrants by sea was recruited by at least 12 citizens of Ukraine”, – stated in the message.

Also it is reported about the exposure of the group from among the citizens of Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Italy and Greece. Criminals are attracted to illegal activities of Ukrainians abroad. Our countrymen acted as executors of the smuggled illegal migrants from Turkey to Greece and Italy by sea with small boats. Aware of at least 12 citizens of Ukraine, inhabitants of Poltava, Odesa and Donetsk regions.

“As a result of joint activities in the Mediterranean sea in Kalapakkam sea region of Paliavana law enforcement agencies of Greece have detained a Ukrainian yacht. It was carrying 57 migrants. The crew members – three of our compatriots”, – reported in the SBS.

It is noted that in this criminal scheme citizens of Ukraine who have carried out directly with the trafficking of illegal migrants to the EU from the point of view of Ukrainian legislation act as victims of criminal activities. They were recruited and sent abroad to engage in subsequent crime.

“In most cases, to encourage the Ukrainians to commit illegal activities used fraudulent methods of persuasion, they were reported present for the transport of persons on pleasure yachts and in 100% of cases were not reported negative consequences in the event of their detention by law enforcement agencies”, – added in Department.

Recall that in early October it was reported about the detention in Greece of a vessel under the Ukrainian flag and its crew.

Earlier it was reported that six Ukrainian citizens were sentenced in Greece to various terms of imprisonment on charges of transportation of refugees from the Middle East.
