Обама призвал Трампа противостоять России

The US President also said that he discussed with Merkel the importance of maintaining sanctions against Russia

President Barack Obama hopes that the new head of state, Donald trump will be able to resist Russia if necessary. About the outgoing President said on his last in this capacity, meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin.

“I hope the elected President will take a similar constructive approach, finding areas in which we can cooperate with Russia. But he also needs to confront Russia when it deviates from international norms,” Obama said.

Obama also said that he discussed with Merkel the importance of maintaining sanctions against Russia until full implementation of the Minsk agreements. Merkel, in turn, also expressed “profound differences” in relations between Russia and Germany, but he stressed that Berlin is interested in good relations with Moscow.

Referring to the situation in Syria, Obama said he believes it is unlikely to radically change the policy of Russia in this country. Obama again accused the Syrian government and the Russian military in the bombing of civilian targets in the country (Moscow denies these charges).
