Odessa city Council plans to rename the street Dnepropetrovsk in the Dnieper. This became known during the meeting of the historical-toponymic Commission of the Executive Committee of the Odessa city Council, the press service of the city hall.

“Members of the Commission supported the options of renaming a number of streets of Odessa in the framework of the law on de-communization, in particular the road Dnipropetrovsk – Dnipro in the road in accordance with the change of the name of the city, after whom the street is named,” – said in the message.

In addition, the Commission supported the renaming of several streets in the regional center.

We will remind, on may 19, the Council changed the name of Dnipropetrovsk on the Dnieper river, the Parliament has registered a draft law, which cancels the rename. Filatov predicted that the costs associated with the renaming of Dnipropetrovsk, will amount to 700-800 thousand UAH.

We will note, in April 2015 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law condemning Communist and Nazi regimes. According to the Ukrainian Institute of national memory, the new names in connection with the operation of the law needs to 941 village. The dismantling of monuments and memorial signs, like the renaming of streets and cities, must end in Ukraine until may 21, 2016.
