Olympic champion Chemiakin returned to the sport with victory in Slovakia

Yana Shemyakina made for the first time since the Olympic games in Rio.

Olympic champion Yana Shemyakina became the winner of the international tournament on fencing on swords in Bratislava.

Ukrainian produced four wins out of six in the group stage and kicked off in the round of direct elimination under 33.

In 1/64 of the standings, our spagetka won against the representative of Kazakhstan Dianne Yakupova (15:8) after stopped the Serbian fencer Martha Grek (15:11), with a minimum advantage beat Paulo Schmidt (15:14) from Austria, knocked out the Hungarian kata Michal (15:7), and in the fight for a place in the semi-final dealt with the other Hungarian athlete River Szabo (15:12).

In the semi-final Shemyakina won a landslide victory over compatriot 17-year-old Catherine Chorny (15:5), and in the final battle of the competition day, overcame another Ukrainian woman – 21-year-old Inna Brovko. The Ukrainian final ended in favor of the Yana with the minimum overweight – 15:14.

Note that this international tournament was the first for Shemyakina since the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. After the performance in Brazil, where Ukrainian spagetti was 13th in the individual event and 8th in command, Shemyakin took a two-year pause.

In August 2017, the 32-year-old Ian became a mother of daughters-twins, and in February of 2018 returned to the training process and working with weapons.
