Former football player Kakha Kaladze became the mayor of the Georgian capital.

Former player of Dynamo Kiev and Milan, and now politician, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of energy of Georgia, Kakha Kaladze was elected as the new mayor of Tbilisi.

Kaladze, of the ruling party “Georgian dream — democratic Georgia” after processing of ballots from all polling stations received 51,06 % of the votes, reports Georgia Online.

It is reported that Kaladze voted more than 203 thousand people. In all, the city was 943 thousand 423 voters, but turnout was only 43.4 per cent — about 410 thousand people.

Until the last moment, experts do not exclude the probability of the second round on elections of the mayor of Tbilisi, but in the end, Kaladze still got more than half of the votes. The closest rival independent candidate Alexander Elisashvili – scored 17.46% of the votes.
