Parliament granted the status of veterans, persons who participated in the struggle for Ukrainian independence in the Ukrainian insurgent army.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted on second reading and in General bill No. 8519 the status of veterans, persons who participated in the struggle for the independence of Ukraine, including the Ukrainian insurgent army. On Thursday, December 6, reports UNN.

Under the bill, as at 23 may 2018, the number of persons who were part of the OUN and UPA, is 1201.

“Until now they did not have the status of veterans and appropriate state support. Along with this, soldiers of the Soviet army and state security Committee these guarantees were not”, – stated in the explanatory part of the law.

It is noted that after the law enters into force, specified in the document categories of citizens will have the same state social security, as combatants.

Earlier in the village Korelichi of Lviv region hallowed war memorial to the fallen soldiers of the Ukrainian insurgent army.

We will remind, the idea to recognize OUN-UPA as participants of the struggle for Ukrainian independence is supported almost half of Ukrainians (45%), at the same time, a contrary view has 33%, undecided – 23%. This is evidenced by the results of a poll group Rating in September and October 2018.
