Paruby signed the law on the termination of the Treaty of friendship with Russia

The law on the termination of the Treaty of friendship between Russia and Ukraine submitted to the President for signature.

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy has signed the law on the termination of the Treaty of friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, the press service of the Parliament.

According to information on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, the document was sent to the President for signature Petro Poroshenko.

The explanatory note says that “the continuing aggression of the Russian Federation caused significant violations of most of the articles of the Treaty” and “to date there is no evidence of a conscientious desire of Russia to eliminate violations and to compensate the damages caused by their illegal actions”.

According to the law, the contract will terminate April 1, 2019.

We will remind, on December 6 the Verkhovna Rada has terminated the Treaty of friendship with Russia from 1 April 2019. Bill No. 0206 was supported by 277 MPs.

The Treaty of friendship, cooperation and partnership between Russia and Ukraine was signed on 31 may 1997, the Convention entered into force on 1 April 1999 for a period of 10 years with automatic renewal for the next ten-year periods in the absence of objections of the parties. In late 2008, the agreement was automatically extended for 10 years.

The term of the agreement ends on 31 March 2019. September 21 Ukraine has officially informed Russia about the termination of the Treaty of friendship.
