Poland launched an investigation against Gazprom

Польша начала расследование против Газпрома

Russian gas company and its partners to build the Nord stream-2 suspected violation of the Antimonopoly legislation.

Against Gazprom and five companies financing Nord stream-2 in Poland launched an antitrust investigation. It holds the Polish Office for protection of competition (UOKiK). On Wednesday, may 9, reports the press service of the UOKiK.

Earlier, Poland did not allow the project participants to create a joint venture for the construction of the gas pipeline on the territory of the country. After that, Gazprom, Shell, Uniper, Wintershall and other members of the consortium withdrew the appropriate application.

However, as suggested by UOKiK, despite this, the company continued financing construction of the Nord stream, which is considered a violation of antitrust laws. If this fact is confirmed, the consortium faces a fine of up to 10 percent of the annual turnover.

In addition, the Antimonopoly office may order to sell part of the partnership’s assets and dissolve it.

The second Nord stream must pass under the Baltic sea from Russia to Germany. The first Nord stream transportorul 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year via two threads, the second pipeline is designed for the same power.

Earlier in Poland, said that Nord stream-2 threatens the security of the Baltic region.

As reported, on 13 and 14 may, the Minister of Economics of Germany intends to visit Ukraine and Russia to discuss Nord stream-2.
