Ukrainians do not see progress in the fight against corruption

Almost 86% of Ukrainians are disappointed in the fight against corruption.

Ukrainians need to show more specific cases of corruption and punish the guilty. At the briefing, dedicated to the festival “Cinema against corruption”, in Kiev, said the Executive Director of Transparency International Ukraine Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, informs Interfax-Ukraine.

“Today, the corrupt officials have not been punished, except that minor officials. Increased the number of people who do not believe that corruption can be punished. If in 2013, 80% of Ukrainians believed that the government could not fight corruption, then today this figure is 86%,” – said yurchishin.

He also added that 38% of Ukrainians are directly experienced corruption – they have demanded a bribe or they were forced to give a bribe.

“We need more examples of corruption defeated, even the future of the current government depends on whether they will be able to present society with facts overcome and punished corruption,” – said yurchishin.

He is sure – if the society is of the view that corruption is invincible, then people will be easier to succumb to corrupt practices.

“Media shapes the opinion, therefore, it is important to show the facts punished major acts of corruption. Even former President Yanukovych on trial today on charges of treason, not corruption,” concluded yurchishin.
