Until the end of 2016, the headquarters of the naval forces of Armed forces of Ukraine will be placed in Odessa. This was stated by the Minister of defence of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak in an interview with foreign journalists, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“Intense fighting in Eastern Ukraine is slightly stalled the reform process. There are problems, in particular, with the leadership of the Navy. We’ve been looking for local host Navy. We already have a solution to build a naval base in Odessa. We found the grounds, the room, we found 100 million USD, there will be placed everything – from school and the naval Academy to staff and infrastructure, will be also and social conditions for Navy servicemen. I hope that before the end of the year the staff of the Navy will visit the new place,” he said.
Poltorak also expressed hope that soon the country’s leadership will decide on the appointment of a new commander of the Ukrainian Navy, “which will be able to prepare and program development and to begin reforms There… need to work, there are many problems,” he said.
