Pope Francis has called for performance of the obligations of the parties to the conflict in the Donbas for peace. He said this today during his traditional message on the occasion of Christmas, reports “Radio Freedom”.

“The world of people who still suffer from the consequences of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, where emergency is a shared desire to bring relief to the population and to fulfill its obligations”, – said the Pope.

In his message, he remembered the countries and territories the inhabitants of which now suffer most from armed conflicts, wars, humanitarian crisis of Syria and Aleppo, Israel, Libya, Yemen, Nigeria, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Colombia, Venezuela, Myanmar, the Korean Peninsula.

We will remind, the armed conflict in the East of Ukraine began in the spring of 2014 after the annexation of Crimea. According to the UN, in the Donbass has since killed more than 9.6 thousand people, more than 22,000 were injured.

As reported yesterday in the Vatican Christmas mass was held with the participation of Pope Francis.

Previously Francis has been collected for victims of the conflict in the Donbas Ukrainians, more than 10 million euros.

Note, on December 21, participants of the Trilateral contact group on settling the situation in Donbas have confirmed their intentions to cease fire from 00:00 on 24 December.
