Pope: the Law on elections in the Donbass – one of the key demands of world leaders to Ukraine

Папиев: Закон о выборах на Донбассе - одно из ключевых требований мировых лидеров к Украине

The opposition bloc welcomed the initiative of the Hannover world leaders to intensify work on the preparation of the elections in the Donbass. This was stated by MP from the Opposition bloc Mikhail Papiyev, the press service of the Opposition bloc.

He recalled that on the evening of April 25 after a meeting in Hanover with the presidents of the USA Barack Obama and France Francois Hollande, Prime Ministers of UK David Cameron and Italy’s Matteo Renzi made a statement by German Chancellor Angela Merkel: “We need now, first and foremost, to work on the election law and to make additional efforts to prepare for elections in the Donbas”.

“Almost all world leaders supported the demand of the Opposition bloc on the urgent adoption by the Verkhovna Rada law of Ukraine on local elections throughout the territory of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, including uncontrolled, and conducting there in 2016 elections to bodies of local self-government and by-elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine”, – said the MP.

Pope hopes that the signal from Hanover “will make the “party of war” in the Ukrainian Parliament to change our swords into plowshares and cease provocations”.

“The opposition bloc has consistently advocated a position of peaceful settlement of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. And despite all of the difficulties and violations of the regime of silence, at the moment the alternative to the Minsk agreements do not exist”, – summed up the MP.
