The President told the NATO Secretary General on violations of the ceasefire by the separatists in the Donbass, and discussed the reform of the defence sector.

President Petro Poroshenko and Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Jens Stoltenberg discussed the reform of the security sector and defense of Ukraine in accordance with the standards of the Alliance. This was reported on the official website of the President.

“The head of state reiterated that Ukraine continues the implementation of a policy of Euro-Atlantic integration and actively reforming the security sector and defence in accordance with NATO standards. In this regard, it was noted the recent approval by the Council of national security and defense of Ukraine the draft law of Ukraine on national security,” the statement says.

Poroshenko also briefed Stoltenberg about the situation in the Donbas and violations of the ceasefire by the separatists.

The President expressed gratitude to NATO for its consistent political support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and important practical assistance in countering Russian aggression.

During the conversation they also discussed topical issues of further cooperation in the framework of the Commission Ukraine – NATO.

We will remind, according to the Secretary General of NATO, the doors of the Alliance are open to Ukraine, but decision on admission to their ranks will take all 29 members of the organization.
