The President of Ukraine took part in the ceremonies of farewell to U.S. Senator John McCain.

To the ceremonies of farewell to U.S. Senator John McCain in Washington, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called the Senator a hero of Ukraine, the press service of the President.

After the ceremony, Poroshenko noted that Senator McCain was near Ukraine and Ukrainians in the critical moments of our history.

“We all remember him on the Maidan during the revolution of Dignity, when at a temperature of minus 26 degrees he came out naked, touched hundreds of thousands of people who stood on the Maidan to Express absolutely necessary then words of support. The whole world and the United States of America, together with the Ukrainians. “You are a true American hero, but you and a true hero of Ukraine. Thank you” – said Poroshenko.

Recall that U.S. Senator John McCain, who in 2017 was diagnosed with brain cancer, died August 25 at 82 years old.

The press service of the Ukrainian President reported earlier that his visit at the farewell ceremony with McCain is private, so Poroshenko will travel to Washington scheduled flight.

It was also reported that at the farewell ceremony with McCain in the U.S. flew the mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko.
