Poroshenko met with foreign Minister of Canada

Poroshenko made a working visit to Canada.

President Petro Poroshenko during a visit to Canada met with the foreign Minister Christ Freeland and discussed with her the issue of the UN peacekeeping operation in the Donbas. On Saturday, September 23, reported the press service of the head of state.

“We discussed possible ways of mutually beneficial opportunities provided by a free trade Agreement, as well as further deepening of bilateral cooperation in the defense sector, including Ukraine’s support in the development of close partnership relations with NATO”, – stated in the message.

Poroshenko raised the issue of implementation of the Minsk agreements, as well as the coordination of the UN peacekeeping mission in the occupied territories of Donbass.

“There was also the expectation that Canada will take a principled stand on the question of sanctions pressure on Moscow, especially in the context of the future chairmanship of the group of seven”, – said the press service of the head of state.

The President thanked Canada for the support of Ukraine and personally the head of the foreign Ministry Freeland for participation in the London conference on reforms in Ukraine.

Previously Poroshenko has said that to introduce peacekeepers to the Donbass without the consent of Russia will not work. The Russian foreign Ministry said that Moscow has again changed the position of the UN mission in the Donbas and agreed to place it only on the demarcation line. Poroshenko did not agree to the proposal of the Kremlin.
