Poroshenko discussed with Deputy UN Secretary General restoration of infrastructure of Donbass

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko received the UN Deputy Secretary General, Executive Director of the UN office for project services (UNOPS) Grete Faremo. About it reported in a press-service of presidential Administration.

“During the meeting the sides discussed prospects for expanding assistance from the organizations of the UN system in the provision of assistance in the rapid restoration of essential infrastructure facilities in Donbass and development suffered from the Russian aggression the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Special attention was paid to the urgent humanitarian needs of internally displaced persons in Ukraine”, – stated in the message.

Petro Poroshenko stressed the importance of Ukraine’s access to innovative sources of financing – through interaction with institutional donors, charitable organizations, international business associations for the implementation of socio-economic, environmental and humanitarian projects in the Donbas.

“It was, in particular, on special projects on demining, programs create new jobs for Donbas residents and the development of educational opportunities for children, including the rehabilitation and modernization of educational institutions”, – noted in press service.

On the proposal of the President, an agreement was reached on the issue of creating a new office of UNOPS, which would ensure coordination of projects and programmes implemented by the UN in Ukraine, as well as the mobilization and rational use of international financial assistance.

The UN Deputy Secretary General Stoltenberg congratulated Ukraine on “a brilliant and deserved victory” Jamala-for the Eurovision song contest in Sweden.

We will remind, the humanitarian organization will restore 200 houses in Marinka and Krasnogorovka.
