President Petro Poroshenko discussed with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier the need to maintain and possible increase of sanctions against Russia. About it reports a press-service of the Ukrainian President on Tuesday, April 10.

The leaders expressed concern over the continuing provocations of separatists in the Donbas.

Poroshenko noted that the introduction of UN peacekeepers in the not uncontrolled Kiev territory”will contribute to the stabilization in the region” and will ensure effective transition “from a regime of constant Russian provocations: a regime of peaceful settlement”.

Steinmeier, in turn, has supported international efforts for a peaceful settlement in the Donbass, particularly in the context of the importance of the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent.

The presidents also discussed Germany’s support to Ukraine’s progress on reforms, especially decentralization, medicine, the fight against corruption.

In addition, Poroshenko and Steinmeier stressed the importance of the use of the gas potential of Ukraine.

Earlier today Poroshenko during his visit to Germany, held talks with Angela Merkel. It also became known that soon will host a meeting of leaders of Ukraine, Germany and France. It won’t be negotiations in the Normandy format.
