Poroshenko discussed with the head of the foreign Ministry of Belarus the issues of economic cooperation between the two countries

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with Minister of foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei. The interlocutors discussed topical issues on the agenda of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Belarus. About it reported in a press-service of the Ukrainian President.

In particular, the Belarusian Minister thanked the President of Ukraine for assistance in the resumption of a constructive dialogue of Belarus with the European Union.

“Special attention was paid to economic cooperation between the two countries. The parties noted the expediency of strengthening trade and economic relations by expanding cooperation in engineering, energy, agriculture and transport sector. They noted the importance of holding the next meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Ukrainian mixed Commission in September this year in Minsk,” – said in the message.

The two sides also stressed the importance of completing the arrangement of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border in accordance with the best international standards.

Poroshenko expressed Ukraine’s interest in the development of the network of educational institutions with the aim of creating opportunities for learning the Ukrainian language in the regions populated by ethnic Ukrainians in Belarus.

During the meeting the sides also discussed issues of organization of joint cultural events on the occasion of the 345 anniversary of the author of the first Ukrainian Constitution Hetman Pylyp Orlyk, who was born on the territory of modern Minsk region.

Vladimir Makei also conveyed sincere congratulations on behalf of the President of Belarus on the occasion of the 25 th anniversary of independence of Ukraine.

Earlier, first Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s representative to the Humanities subgroup of the Trilateral contact group Irina Gerashchenko said that Ukraine and Belarus should intensify inter-parliamentary dialogue.
